The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported a 12% reduction in crime rates within the first month of the 'Safer Cities' initiative. Launched on April 6, the program has shown promising results, with officials recording 2,684 focus crimes from April 6 to May 6.
This figure marks a decrease from the 3,047 focus crimes recorded in the previous month, translating to a reduction of 363 cases.
The initiative targets eight specific focus crimes, including murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, car theft, and motorcycle theft.
Significant declines were noted in rape and physical injury cases, which dropped by 25% and 24.3%, respectively. Rape incidents fell from 519 to 387, while physical injury cases decreased from 489 to 370.

Nartatez emphasized the PNP's focus on enhancing operational readiness and investigative capabilities.
The 'Safer Cities' initiative also enforces local ordinances, including a 10 p.m. curfew for minors, restrictions on public drinking, and limitations on late-night activities.
In addition, police presence has been increased in schools and crowded areas to ensure public safety.
