Cebu City, Philippines — In a bid to enhance passenger safety, bus terminals in Cebu have implemented stricter security protocols following a series of recent drug-related incidents.
Background on Security Enhancements
The decision to tighten security measures comes on the heels of the arrest of a woman accused of selling illegal drugs to students and public utility drivers. This incident occurred near the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) at a former gas station.
It is highly unlikely for anyone to sell illegal drugs inside the terminal because of the security measures we have put in place.

- Installation of 24 closed-circuit television cameras to enhance surveillance.
To further deter illegal activities, security personnel have increased their presence, while access to the terminals has been restricted. Civilian guards and undercover officers will monitor the premises closely.
Passengers, employees, and vendors must now present valid identification before entering the terminals. Those without proper identification may be escorted off the property.
Cebu Provincial Police Office members are also collaborating with terminal security to bolster safety measures. Cuizon noted that a one-entrance, one-exit policy has been implemented to streamline passenger monitoring.
Recent Drug-Related Incident
The arrest that triggered these heightened security measures involved a woman posing as a beggar who sold shabu in Barangay Sambag I. Authorities confirmed that the transactions occurred close to the CSBT.
The National Bureau of Investigation-Central Visayas (NBI-CEVRO) acted on intelligence reports that linked the suspect to drug sales near schools and public transport areas.
The suspect, arrested on July 21, 2026, is facing charges under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Future Coordination with Authorities
Cuizon mentioned that the provincial government is set to coordinate with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency to further enhance security protocols and prevent similar incidents.
This proactive approach aims to ensure a safer environment for those using Cebu's public transport system.
