Local authorities in Cebu City seized 87 kilos of illegal lechon on Sunday, May 10. The lechon was confiscated due to the absence of required permits.
The Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF) reported that the lechon was sold by vendors in Barangays Apas and Lahug. None had meat inspection certificates, violating City Ordinance No. 2189.
Details of the Seizure
In Barangay Apas, two lechons weighing 15 kilos and 42 kilos were confiscated. These were reportedly sourced from Talisay and Mandaue cities.
A third lechon, weighing 30 kilos, was found in Barangay Lahug, with the pig slaughtered in the mountain barangay of Bonbon.
The DVMF, in cooperation with the Cebu City Police, conducted the operation to combat the sale of unregulated meat products, which pose health risks.
The confiscated lechon was recorded in the blotter of Mabolo Police Station 4 before being buried at Block 27 in the NRA.

The DVMF urged all meat vendors and lechon dealers to obtain the necessary permits and licenses, including a Meat Inspection Certificate, to avoid similar confiscations.
