Toyota Motor Philippines has announced that the GR GT, the highly anticipated flagship sports car from Toyota Gazoo Racing, will be entering the Philippine market.

This confirmation came during the second leg of the 2026 Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup, held from July 10 to 12 at Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.

A New Era for Philippine Sports Cars

The GR GT is a thoroughbred race machine built for the streets.

While no specific launch date, pricing, or unit allocation details have been released yet, the GR GT is expected to be one of the most expensive Toyota models sold in the country.

The GR GT is designed to embody Toyota's engineering excellence, following in the footsteps of iconic models like the Toyota 2000GT and Lexus LFA. Both vehicles established Toyota's reputation in the sports car arena.

  • Developed with a low center of gravity and reduced weight for improved handling.
  • Features a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine combined with a hybrid system.

Toyota's innovative approach to the GR GT includes a first-of-its-kind all-aluminum body frame and carbon-fiber panels, which enhance performance while ensuring structural integrity.

This model will feature a rear-wheel-drive layout, with a newly designed eight-speed automatic transmission that enhances weight distribution and driving balance. The hybrid system aims to boost performance, providing torque and responsiveness.

Public unveiling of the GR GT occurred at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon, with global availability expected by 2027. However, its arrival in the Philippines signifies a milestone for local automotive enthusiasts.

Though the GR GT is unlikely to become a common sight on Philippine roads, its presence reflects Toyota's commitment to showcase cutting-edge performance technology, influencing future models across the brand.
