Samsung Electronics has officially surpassed a market valuation of $1 trillion for the first time, reflecting its pivotal role in the booming artificial intelligence (AI) chip market.

The company's stock soared nearly 12% on Wednesday, contributing to the surge in South Korea's Kospi index, which reached record highs above 7,000 points.

Samsung's astonishing growth comes as it reported a record operating profit of 57.2 trillion won ($39.3 billion) for the first quarter, a 750% increase year-on-year.

A Key Player in AI Technology

As demand for high-performance chips rises, Samsung stands out alongside its competitor SK Hynix in the global supply chain for AI technologies. These chips are essential for companies racing to innovate in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

The South Korean government is also pushing to establish the country among the top three global AI powers, alongside the U.S. and China.

Samsung attributed its impressive performance to AI technology innovations and proactive market responses.

Over the past year, Samsung's shares have climbed approximately 300%, demonstrating the impact of the AI boom on South Korea's economic growth.

This achievement makes Samsung the second Asian company, following Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, to reach a $1 trillion market capitalization.
