The Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) closed higher on Monday, rising 108.52 points or 1.86%, to settle at 5,942.16. This uptick was driven by easing concerns regarding the US-Iran conflict.
Market optimism grew after reports surfaced that Iran proposed a 14-point plan to the United States aimed at resolving ongoing tensions.
Japhet Tantiangco, a financial research manager at Philstocks, noted that the overall market responded favorably, reflecting positive sentiment.
Investor confidence was further supported by US President Donald Trump's commitment to ensuring the safety of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
Luis Limlingan, head of sales at Regina Capital Development Corp., highlighted that the PSEi's rise followed a period of heavy selling, with investors engaging in bargain hunting.
He added that the release of first-quarter earnings from various companies also provided fresh insights for cautious investors.
On the trading floor, net value turnover reached P5.47 billion, although foreign investors ended the day as net sellers with outflows totaling P341.56 million.
Sector performance was mixed, with the services sector leading gains at 4.36%, while mining and oil stocks dipped slightly.
DigiPlus Interactive Corp. emerged as the day's top gainer, surging 9.72% to P14.90, while AREIT, Inc. saw the largest decline, dropping 3.54% to P38.10.
Analysts suggest that the market's rebound reflects a renewed risk appetite, though geopolitical uncertainties continue to keep investors on edge.
