The Philippines' inflation rate remained steady at 6.1% in August 2026, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). This stability is attributed to slower price increases in essential sectors like food and housing.

Key Drivers of Inflation Trends

Our priority is to strengthen the foundations of long-term price stability through improved food security, more efficient logistics, and targeted support for vulnerable sectors.

Arsenio Balisacan, Secretary, Department of Economy, Planning, and Development
  • Food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation decreased to 4.6% from 5.2%.
  • Housing, water, and energy inflation slowed to 7.9% from 8.2%.
  • Inflation for rice spiked to 19.4% from 17.1%.

The dip in food inflation was primarily due to a significant decrease in the prices of vegetables and tubers, which saw a contraction of 3.4% in August after an 8.4% increase in July. Meanwhile, inflation for essential items such as rice accelerated, highlighting the complexities in the agricultural sector.

Secretary Balisacan emphasized the government's commitment to manage price pressures effectively, especially as global economic challenges persist, notably from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East affecting oil prices. He stated that the focus on food security and improved logistics will help build a more resilient economy.
