President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the Philippines' commitment to exploring non-traditional sources of petroleum products during a recent summit in Kazan, Russia.

Emphasizing Energy Security

Even if the war does come to an end, we, Philippines, will still continue to look for so-called non-traditional partners in terms of the supply of petroleum products.

Ferdinand Marcos Jr., President of the Philippines
  • Focus on diversifying oil sources.
  • Interest in increasing petroleum sales from Russia.
  • Acknowledgment of geopolitical complexities.

Speaking to reporters, Marcos noted that energy security was a key topic during his discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, particularly in light of ongoing global tensions after the U.S.-Iran agreement.

While no formal agreements were established, Marcos indicated a mutual understanding to strengthen existing efforts initiated in response to the global oil crisis.

Marcos mentioned that the Philippines' approach to sourcing oil has been somewhat improvised, especially since the onset of conflicts impacting supply chains.

He expressed optimism about establishing a more structured system for procurement, which would provide the Philippines with a reliable source of petroleum.

However, he cautioned that regular sourcing from Russia remains undecided due to potential political and geopolitical challenges.

Despite these complications, Marcos expressed confidence that determination from both parties could lead to successful collaboration.
