This investment surpasses the P5 billion minimum required under the Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (Evis), which incentivizes local manufacturers to produce EVs in the Philippines. Under the Evis framework, qualified models can receive up to P15 billion in fiscal incentives.
The planned electric jeepney will accommodate 22 seated passengers, with capacity for eight standing. Its range is estimated between 100 and 150 kilometers, while the long-range variant could reach up to 250 kilometers on a single charge.
In addition to the jeepney, Francisco Motors is introducing the 'Elektron,' a compact SUV that boasts a driving range of 400 to 600 kilometers and has a top variant priced at P1.95 million.
Francisco highlighted the importance of local manufacturing, noting that all components of the upcoming models, from body shells to batteries, will be produced in the Philippines. The company aims to address the replacement of the country’s estimated 250,000 traditional jeepneys.
The company is currently preparing its formal application for Evis and anticipates the release of implementing rules for the program. Francisco expressed optimism about the future of local automotive manufacturing, suggesting that a competitive market would foster job creation and technological advancement.
