A new push for financial education, dubbed 'FinEd,' is making waves across the Philippines, particularly through partnerships led by the BDO Foundation and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). This initiative is designed to equip Filipinos with vital financial management skills.
Enhancing Financial Literacy for All
The FinEd program focuses on teaching practical skills in budgeting, saving, and financial planning, thus improving overall economic resilience. It targets various vulnerable groups, including micro-entrepreneurs, persons recovering from drug use, and senior citizens.
Financial education helps ensure that beneficiaries are equipped to make informed decisions and improve their quality of life.

- Over 73,000 military personnel have benefited from financial education programs.
- Customized training modules cover essential financial topics, including investments and managing debt.
In Pasig City, the initiative aligns with local government efforts to promote participatory governance. The city government, along with BDO Foundation and BSP, has expanded access to financial education for relocated families and marginalized communities.
Moreover, in Batanes, a program called Fish N’ LEarn has trained over 50 fisherfolk in budgeting and financial planning, using real-life scenarios tailored to their community.
This comprehensive approach showcases how financial literacy can be integrated into broader community development efforts, paving the way for more sustainable economic practices.
Launched in 2019, the FinEd initiative supports the BSP’s National Strategy for Financial Inclusion, which aims to enhance the financial capabilities of the Philippine populace.
BDO Foundation President Mario A. Deriquito emphasized the importance of financial education in fostering stronger families and communities, stating that it plays a key role in achieving national development goals.
