In a Facebook update, the mayor emphasized that the city’s focus is on equipping Cebuanos with digital skills and AI education rather than endorsing any particular initiative.
Archival stated that any significant investment impacting the city would require thorough evaluations, including legal reviews and public consultations.
Concerns regarding the environmental and labor implications of the Garganera pointed out that Cebu City faces challenges like flooding and waste management, suggesting that these must be addressed before pursuing large-scale technology investments.
The BPO Industry Employees Network-Cebu has echoed worries about potential job losses due to AI adoption, while environmental groups caution against the project's impact on local ecosystems.
