Philippine stocks are seeing upward momentum, with the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) rising by 1.01% to close at 6,286.70 on Friday. This increase can be attributed to ongoing bargain hunting among investors.

Market Dynamics and Investor Sentiment

The PSEi's rise marks its best closing in over four months, reflecting a week-on-week gain of 98.67 points. Analysts attribute this positive sentiment partly to a slight dip in June inflation, which stood at 6.4%, down from May's 6.8%.

The local market has shown positive momentum in the last two weeks, climbing a total of 3.53%. Support from foreign investors was also seen recently, with the last six trading days all posting net inflows with a total of P3.76 billion.

Despite these gains, market analysts warn of potential headwinds. Renewed tensions in the Middle East and a lack of significant market catalysts may keep investors on edge. The geopolitical landscape remains uncertain, particularly concerning U.S.-Iran relations.

Inflation also continues to pose challenges. While June's inflation rate is an improvement, it still exceeds the government's target range of 2%-4%. Analysts suggest that fluctuations in global oil prices and climatic factors like El Niño could exacerbate local inflation.

Looking ahead, the PSEi is projected to trade between 6,150 and 6,400 this week. Analysts expect investors to closely monitor second-quarter corporate earnings, which are anticipated to show a decline in average earnings per share by 2%.
