Ayala Malls is ramping up its commitment to renewable energy by expanding solar installations across its properties in the Philippines. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to create sustainable retail environments.
A Comprehensive Solar Strategy
Solar is one of the ways we reduce our environmental footprint. It’s part of our diversified approach — combining on-site generation with clean power sourcing to support long-term clean energy performance across our malls.
Paul Birkett, Chief Operating Officer of Ayala Malls
- Current solar installations at 13 malls generate approximately 20.8 million kWh of clean electricity yearly.
- An additional 18 malls are set to produce 29.4 million kWh annually, reducing CO2 emissions by 22,940 tonnes.
The existing solar setups at 13 Ayala Malls, which include notable locations like Ayala Malls Manila Bay and Ayala Center Cebu, already contribute significantly to the company's sustainability goals by generating around 20.8 million kWh of electricity each year.
Expanding this initiative, Ayala Malls plans to introduce solar panels at 18 more locations, including Glorietta and Ayala Malls Circuit. This expansion is expected to add another 29.4 million kWh of clean energy annually, further cutting carbon emissions.
Renewable energy now accounts for 98% of the electricity used at Ayala Malls, sourced from certified suppliers and verified through International Renewable Energy Certificates (iRECs). This transition to solar power enhances their long-term energy strategy and operational cost efficiency.
Birkett emphasized that sustainability is a core principle in Ayala Malls' operations, influencing design choices that incorporate natural lighting and green spaces while utilizing recycled water for operations.
This solar expansion reflects Ayala Malls' dedication to responsible business practices that benefit both communities and the environment, positioning the company as a leader in sustainable retail.
