An agricultural company has initiated legal proceedings against two farmers' groups, alleging cyberlibel and oral defamation. Planters Products, Inc. (PPI) submitted the complaints to the Makati Prosecutors’ Office, naming the Federation of Free Farmers (FFF) and the Magsasaka Party-list.
The complaints arise from statements made by the groups, which characterized PPI as a government-owned corporation and questioned the legality of its rice imports.
PPI contends that it operates as a private entity and adheres to all legal requirements regarding its import activities.
Legal counsel Carlwin Ong stated that the company's reputation has been harmed due to these allegations. He emphasized the need for the company to protect its image and ensure the public receives accurate information.
FFF chair Leonardo Montemayor indicated he had not yet seen the complaint but plans to respond once he reviews the details.
