Manila Calling, an innovative project by Manila Collective Inc., is set to launch this May as a traveling art exhibition. It aims to connect cities like Manila, Barcelona, Madrid, and Tokyo, redefining the exhibition experience by taking art beyond traditional spaces.
The initiative seeks to unite art lovers and creators from various backgrounds, showcasing a vibrant mix of Filipino and international talent.
A Unique Exhibition Experience
Manila Calling blends elements of a gallery, a curated gift shop, and a street art party. It features a diverse array of visual artists, illustrators, and designers from the Philippines, Spain, France, Italy, and Japan.
Artists have submitted original pieces that will be transformed into a cohesive silk textile installation. Alongside this centerpiece, visitors can find limited-edition prints, zines, apparel, and various collectible items.
The exhibition will also include live painting sessions, exclusive merchandise, and music-driven events, creating an engaging atmosphere for attendees.
Travel Itinerary
Manila Calling will kick off its tour in Barcelona on May 15 and 16, followed by stops in Madrid on May 19 and 20. After its European leg, the exhibition will return to Manila for a month-long showcase at Centro de Turismo Intramuros from June 6 to 27.
A closing celebration is also planned in Barcelona for July, along with a Tokyo stop.
The exhibition will feature 70 artists, including notable names such as Martí Sawe, Emilio Cerezo, and Mich Dulce, along with Japanese artists from the THA Collective.
Launch Event in Manila
The tour will begin with a pop-up gift shop in Comuna, Makati, on May 8 at 4 p.m. The shop will remain open on May 9 and 10, offering on-the-spot art commissions, merchandise, and flash tattoos.
By taking art to the streets, Manila Calling aims to make it more accessible and relatable, breaking down barriers that often separate art from the public.
