VATICAN CITY - Pope Leo has canceled his planned visit to Assisi, scheduled for October 27, due to recovery needs following lung cancer surgery.
Doctors advised against the helicopter flight as the 71-year-old pontiff recovers from the removal of his right lung's lower lobe, performed on October 13.
Positive Recovery Progress
The Vatican announced that further examinations confirmed the cancer, specifically lung adenocarcinoma, was localized. As a result, Pope Leo will not require additional cancer treatments.
To support his recovery following thoracic surgery last Tuesday, and in accordance with doctors' advice, Pope Leo XIV will be unable to attend.
