The Minnesota Timberwolves are expressing confidence that Anthony Edwards will be 'good as new' following his recent knee surgery, according to Tim Connelly, the team's president of basketball operations.

Edwards underwent arthroscopic surgery on Thursday to address ongoing issues with his right knee. The team expects to have a clearer timeline for his return in the coming weeks.

While the specific diagnosis has not been disclosed, Edwards struggled with knee pain last season, limiting him to just 61 games. He also dealt with a hyperextended left knee during the playoffs, leading to a bone bruise that sidelined him for two games.

Timberwolves Adapt to Injury Challenges

He wants to play tonight. He looked pretty good the other night, having the 47,” Connelly said before the Timberwolves hosted Golden State. “We’re just concerned about his long-term health.

Despite the setback, Edwards displayed remarkable resilience by scoring 47 points in a recent game against Cleveland, even while coping with knee discomfort.

An MRI revealed new damage to his knee that previous scans had missed, raising concerns about his long-term health.

Connelly noted that while Edwards was initially reluctant about the surgery, his positive attitude has helped uplift the team. 'He’s bummed, but Anthony is such a naturally positive and upbeat guy,' Connelly said.

The Timberwolves are also facing challenges with guard Donte DiVincenzo out for the season due to an Achilles injury. The team has revamped its lineup with the addition of LaMelo Ball, allowing Edwards to return to his natural shooting guard position.

  • Ayo Dosunmu and Terrence Shannon Jr. will likely step up in Edwards' absence.
  • Bones Hyland is expected to take on a larger role.

Hyland acknowledged the difficulty of replacing Edwards' contributions but emphasized the importance of team play. 'Nobody can be like Ant, but we've got players who can step in and just take over a game as well,' he said.
