Riot Games has unveiled its updated framework for the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) 2027, focusing on qualification paths, funding, and regional tournaments. This marks a substantial shift in the competitive landscape for VALORANT.
Expanded Team Participation
The Kickoffs will now feature 12 teams from VCT Americas, EMEA, and the Pacific, comprised of eight partnered teams and four from open qualifiers. This adjustment aims to provide equal opportunity for all teams.
In a notable change, the top three teams from each Kickoff will secure spots in the first Masters tournament. This replaces the previous model where only two teams qualified through Challengers and Ascension.
VCT 2027 is built around a simple belief: the best teams should earn their place every step of the way and every match matters. We wanted to create a system that rewards performance, opens more opportunities for teams around the world, and makes every match feel meaningful.
Leo Faria, Global Head of VALORANT Esports, Riot Games
- 12 teams per Kickoff
- Top three teams qualify for Masters
- Equal opportunities for partnered and open qualifier teams
Partner teams must maintain high placements in tournaments, or risk entering Open Playoffs and qualifying through open brackets. This competitive pressure emphasizes performance as vital for ongoing participation.
Regional Competitions and Financial Support
Riot has also announced 14 regional competitions across four regions: VCT Americas, EMEA, and Pacific, with individual slots for South Korea, Japan, and Southeast Asia.
For the first time, a fixed payout system for non-partner teams will be implemented. Teams qualifying for Kickoff will earn USD $100,000, while those reaching Masters and Champions will receive USD $200,000 and $400,000 respectively.
Additionally, non-partner teams will benefit from travel support and other incentives, enhancing the competitive ecosystem.
Riot's new direction aims to foster a more engaging and competitive environment for VALORANT esports. By expanding qualification routes and providing financial backing, they are setting the stage for a more dynamic tournament experience.
