The defense team for Vice President Sara Duterte announced on Monday that they are fully equipped to represent her in the upcoming impeachment trial.
In a statement, the team acknowledged the recent actions taken by the plenary regarding the Articles of Impeachment and stressed that the responsibility now lies with the accusers to back up their allegations.
They noted, "While questions of constitutional significance remain pending before the Supreme Court, we are fully prepared to defend the Vice President before the Senate sitting as an Impeachment Court."
The defense emphasized that it is the Prosecution's duty to meet the burden of proof in this case.
According to the 1987 Constitution, impeachment cases can only be initiated by the House of Representatives, while the Senate is responsible for conducting the trial.
