A 15-foot golden statue of Donald Trump unveiled at his Miami golf course has stirred debate about idol worship. Televangelist Mark Burns, who led the dedication ceremony, firmly stated that the statue is not meant to be worshipped.
Financed by cryptocurrency supporters, the gilded statue, known as "Don Colossus," depicts Trump raising his fist after surviving an assassination attempt in 2024. Its creator, Alan Cottrill, confirmed that the statue was finally installed after receiving payment last month.
This statue is not about worship. It is about honor.

During the ceremony, Burns addressed comparisons to the biblical golden calf, stating, "Let me say this plainly: this is not a golden calf." He emphasized that the statue symbolizes resilience and patriotism.
Despite his reassurances, some critics remain skeptical. Burns reiterated his stance on social media, clarifying, "We worship the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone. Honor is not worship. Respect is not idolatry."
Many of Trump's supporters believe that his survival of assassination attempts, including a shooting in June 2024, signifies divine protection. Burns highlighted this belief in his remarks, referring to the statue as a reminder of God's influence in Trump's life.
Cottrill, the statue's creator, noted that he was not invited to the dedication ceremony despite the lengthy process of bringing the statue to fruition.
