Associate Justice Japar Dimaampao has stressed the importance of English proficiency and analytical skills for aspiring lawyers during his recent interview with the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).
In response to a query from Batangas Representative Gerville Luistro about enhancing law school rigor, Dimaampao advocated for a Bar exam that rigorously tests these competencies.
I am known as a strict but reasonable law professor. I only pass those who possess the three qualities.

Dimaampao noted that a focus on analytical skills could lead to fewer candidates passing the exam, reflecting a desire for higher standards in the legal profession.
He also emphasized that court decisions should be clear, consistent, and concise, ensuring public understanding and trust in the judiciary.
Dimaampao proposed three initiatives aimed at combating graft and corruption within the judicial system: enhancing independent accountability, promoting transparency through digitalization, and fostering a culture of integrity.
These statements come as the Supreme Court prepares for the retirement of Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo on November 6, making way for new leadership and potential reforms in the legal landscape.
